After working in private practice for 5 years I moved into the local authority sector where I gained extensive experience in a range of legal areas including planning and environmental law, procurement, commercial property and contacts, employment, social care and governance. I was appointed as Chief Executive of Powys County Council in 2009 and over the preceding years I developed and delivered a series of corporate visions and supporting strategies which allowed the organisation to transform itself, as a means of dealing with significant financial and regulatory pressures brought about by the Governments austerity policy and demographic change, without the need for wholesale service closures . I was Chair of Solace (Wales) between 2012-2014. After nine years as a local authority chief executive I decided I needed to do something different and luckily, I was able to return to legal practrice with the Environment Agency.
