In 2007, he was appointed by Governor Sonny Purdue to serve on the Private Colleges and Universities Authority and was reappointed by Governor Nathan Deal in 2013. Having served as an officer on his local Greater Rome Chamber of Commerce Board, he currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Georgia Chamber of Commerce. He served as Chairman of the Board of Georgia Conservancy and presently serves as a member of the Advisory Board. A member of Leadership Georgia’s Class of 1999, he served on the Leadership Georgia Board of Trustees from 2003-2006 and in 2008, received the Fred Kerr Award, “for enthusiastic and active support of Leadership Georgia on a continuing and consistent basis.” He has provided "pro bono" consulting services in strategic planning, board development and fundraising for non-profits in his community and state-wide. In 2017, for his committed service and dedication to the Rome community, he was a recipient of the Heart of the Community Award. An Eagle Scout, he has been a lifelong volunteer for the Boy Scouts of America. Montgomery is a graduate of Stetson University (BA), LaGrange College (MA), and attended Harvard University’s Institute of Educational Management in the Graduate School of Education.
