John Fredenburg’s Expertise Recording Engineer John Fredenburg is a "worker in the area of conflict between Art and Technology," who brings musical ideas to life. In 2008, he won First Place in Stereo: Classical in the student recording competition during the Audio Engineering Society’s 125th Convention in San Francisco. He was the recording engineer on the Beijing Guitar Duo’s album, “Maracaipe,” the title track from which received a 2010 Latin Grammy nomination for Best Classical Contemporary Composition. John was an assistant engineer on “Vladimir Horowitz’s The Unreleased Live Recordings: 1966 – 1983” that received a 2017 Grammy nomination for Best Historical Album. He has also received credits on titles released by Sony Classical, The Metropolitan Opera, Shout! Broadway, Universal, Neuma Records, MSR Classics, Albany Records, Vurse, Concert Artist Guild, Tonar Music, Hyena Records and the Drink Ammo Record labels. Recent work includes engineering Robert Moran: Points of Departure on Neuma Records, mastering Ketty Nez’s double images on Albany Records, producing On to the Next One by Chasing Straights, and mixing the musical Shanghai Sonatas. John Fredenburg earned a Master of Arts in Audio Sciences from the Peabody Institute of Johns Hopkins University and a Bachelor of Science in Music Technology from the University of Colorado. He completed an Audio Recording Engineer Practicum at the Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity and was a Senior Recording Engineer at the Aspen Music Festival.
