In addition to mainline quality responsibilities, John is also noted for his effort to resolve major lab problems. Small scale efforts included electrical and network upgrades to existing labs. To support Sun's strategic shift from workstations to servers, John designed a server lab for the OS group using AutoCAD to document the layout. He coordinated all aspects of the project including the choice of electrical and network contractors and oversaw the day-to-day construction. The lab is still functioning well and has not suffered from any infrastructural shortages its seven years of operation.
