Jonathan Craft’s Location United States
Jonathan Craft’s Expertise I am seeking an analytical position that would offer an opportunity for me to assist engineers in field work and data analysis. Currently, I am a light-duty truck driver that hauls trailers of scrap tires across locations throughout North Alabama. In addition to hauling scrap tires, I sort through the scrap for used tires that can be re-used & re-sold. I also work as a tire technician (e.g., mount, balance, rotation, flat repair, etc.). This job has helped me learn about entrepreneurship and how a small private business runs. I worked in fishing retail for several years. This has allowed me to spend more time fishing, doing what I love, and develop customer service skills that academia did not. I made more money and had a better quality of life than I did in academia. Fishing helped me bridge my naturalist passions with business and helping people. Fishing is a multi-billion dollar industry in the United States and I am fascinated by the technology available to fishers. I enjoyed helping fishers problem-solve some of humanity longest running challenges: how to catch fish (more, larger, specific-types), how to trick fish into biting manmade baits, and so on. Fishing and retail have much to teach anyone will to put in the work. I had a scientific & academic career (marine biology, ecology, and plant natural products chemistry) for over a decade. My research has focused on chemical discovery, essential oils, volatile organic compounds, and terpenoids found in plant and seaweed. I have participated in variety biological surveys aboard research ships. My work has taken me abroad: Antarctica, Australia, Caribbean Sea, and predominantly in the Southeastern United States (Alabama, Florida, and South Carolina). I have teaching experience at the college level. I enjoyed these career experiences because they enabled me to work outdoors, in biological & chemical laboratories, and at a desk performing statical analyses and producing technical publications. Before College and my academic careers, I worked construction through high school, and held a job as an mechanic at a Ford dealership for two years prior to college. I am grateful for the skill that I learned and enjoy working on cars, motorcycles, boats, and various construction projects. My ideal job would require me to work more in the field or in laboratories and less behind a desk.
