I began my legal career in August 2001 as an Assistant State Attorney with the State Attorney’s Office in Miami-Dade, Florida, where I prosecuted over 3000 criminal defendants for a wide range of crimes, ranging from simple misdemeanors to serious felonies. I served as lead counsel in over 30 criminal jury trials and 45 juvenile delinquency bench trials. In late-2006, I was hired as a Deputy District Attorney at Colorado’s 17th Judicial District Attorney’s Office, serving Broomfield and Adams Counties. In December 2011, I was promoted to the position of Senior Deputy District Attorney, a position I held until founding Datz & Fee, LLC in May 2013. During my time with the District Attorney’s office, I served as lead trial counsel in over 35 jury trials, with the highest proportion of those trials dealing with the most serious felony-level offenses, such as first degree murder and sexual assaults on children. From January 2007 through July 2011, I served exclusively in Broomfield County. During my service in Broomfield, I became attached to the Broomfield community and its citizens, ultimately deciding to permanently settle in Broomfield with my wife and two young boys. In February 2011, I was chosen to serve as one of three prosecutors in the elite Child Victim Unit, which exclusively handles serious felony crimes against children, including sexual abuse, physical abuse, and sexual exploitation.
