  Here’s why I started this business: As you may or may not know, I'm a realtor. And one of the reasons I became one is: when I purchased our first home, we were kind of scammed into an idea of ‘equity share’. Where an outside 3rd party would help with the down payment and closing costs for a share of equity once we sell the home. In my case, it was 50/50 on the net profits of the sale. This was 1990 & our value actually went down as I found out when I tried to refinance. My ‘investors’ still wanted at least their money back. Which I ended up paying them out my savings. At that point they were supposed to release any liens on the property/home. 7 years later when I tried to sell the home, not every lien was released & one of them still wanted their 50%. I ended up not paying them anymore thanks to a lawyer. In 1999 I decided to leave the workforce & be a stay home dad. I decided I wanted to be a realtor so I can help people get into their homes without any of these types of ‘helpers’. In addition, my wife had to travel a lot for her work. Being a realtor I have the freedom to schedule my time and have the ability to raise my children. Which brings me to the 2nd reason why I’m now started this Bookkeeping business. As a realtor, I didn’t know enough about taxes and reporting 1099 income. So, I had a tax preparer work for me. Well, one year didn’t go so well and was never told they didn’t/couldn’t e-file my tax return. Even though I paid the tax due to both the state and IRS. And the checks were cashed! This was in 2007. Fast forward 2 years later and the IRS said they never received my return! What! This mistake, or lack for precise communication ended up costing me and my family a little over 20K in fees, penalties & interest. To make a long story short, I learned exactly what to do & kept my own books & did my own personal & company taxes. With the real estate market always going thru peaks & valleys, I continuously find a lot of free time on my hands. My kids are all grown, my grandkids, All which are of school age & don’t need ‘grandpa’ to watch them every day. I'm already a bookkeeper & I’m already a small business owner, these 2 items made me feel confident that I can be successful in this business. I did get certified as a QuickBooks Pro Advisor.
