At the higher ed level, he has held appointments as an instructor of cello and chamber music at the University of Massachusetts, Boston, Bunker Hill Community College, and Merrimack College. Joseph began playing the cello at age 10, and early on developed a love for chamber music. His principal mentors have included the renowned cellist Orlando Cole, the Brentano String Quartet, Barbara Stein-Mallow and Yeesun Kim. Dr. Gotoff received his Doctorate of Musical Arts in Cello Performance in degree from New England Conservatory, with a dissertation that focused on deciphering markings in Beethoven manuscripts.
