Through my classes, I've learned the fundamentals of the many subjects pertaining to mechanical engineering including: fluid dynamics, thermodynamics, heat transfer, controls, manufacturing processes, measurements and instrumentation, and mechanics of materials, just to name a few. Before college, I had the opportunity to work in the manufacturing facility of a windows and door manufacturer, Pella Corporation, for a summer, where I gained first-hand manufacturing experience on the factory lines. My job entailed attaching jamb boards and weather stripping to door panels. The job itself was monotonous, but the tours of the plant that I was given, and being part of the process, helped me understand some of the intricacies associated with manufacturing. I gained further experience with the co-op and internship opportunities I had while in college. During my junior year of college, I was fortunate enough to land an opportunity as a process engineer co-op with Pella Corporation at their Sioux Center, IA plant. In this role, I managed projects and led several teams to increase market share, customer satisfaction, safety, and profitability for the plant; for more details see the experience section below. I must have impressed some people during my co-op with Pella Corporation because, at the end of it, I was extended and offer for an internship opportunity for the following summer at the Pella Corporation's Headquarters in Pella, IA, which I accepted. My role during my internship was to work as a product development engineer intern, where I was tasked with researching and evaluating potential new materials, performing testing and cost analysis on the new materials and designs, and working with vendors and manufacturing leaders to implement design changes; again, for more specific details please check out my experience section below.
