Joshua Fruhlinger’s Expertise Joshua Fruhlinger has been building online editorial and content brands for more than 20 years. He is, or has been, a writer, content strategist, technology journalist, and digital media executive. His stories about technology and culture have appeared in The Wall Street Journal, GQ, Engadget, The Observer, Joystiq, Electronic Gaming Monthly, Wired, Sync, PC Magazine, and others. He's grown top digital brands like Engadget, TMZ, Joystiq, Made Man, Gurl, and Teen. In 2004, he started writing for a little upstart tech blog called Engadget. He helped grow Engadget into the number-one online destination for all things geek, and in 2007 he founded and headed Aol Tech, which included Engadget, Joystiq, TechCrunch, and TUAW. Aol Tech quickly became a top-five ComScore brand in the technology news and information space. Joshua transformed these blogs into successful, revenue-producing content business, and by 2012 Engadget was Official News Source for CES while TechCrunch became the number-one source of startup and Silicon Valley news. Since then he headed TMZ’s digital division where he created thirteen new digital content franchises for the brand, re-launched two mobile products, and helped evolve TMZ from a simple blog to an entertainment news destination with massive month-to-month audience growth. At Defy Media where he oversaw Made Man, The Gloss, Gurl, Teen, Mommyish, Blisstree, Crushable, and The Grindstone, he grew social engagement by over 200% and direct traffic by 80% while improving P&L ratios. He also continues to advise and mentor startups across the world. He's also been a speaker at Digital Summit Atlanta, Seattle Interactive, CEATEC and CES. He even won a Webby at some point. He did his undergraduate at University of California, San Diego and his graduate University of Chicago. He is also aware that writing about yourself in third person is really weird and he hopes to never have to do it again.
