Keith Safian’s Expertise Seasoned CEO with a record of delivering consistent, profitable growth in highly complex systems and turnarounds. Senior executive experience in diverse types of organizations. Proven advisor to over 50 companies, physician practices, established businesses in several industries, and healthcare start-ups. CEO Advisor to 33 physician practices, labs, and imaging centers, 3 tele-health companies, plus real estate development, air purification, environmental testing, and other businesses. My colleague, Bill Adam of WA Healthcare Associates, and I successfully guided seven physician practices, including a Breast Center and an Imaging Center, though the process of finding an investor, obtaining and negotiating LOIs, negotiating final agreements, and closing on the sale of their practices. By following the advice I was given early in my career by a nun who ran a Midwest hospital - “no margin, no mission” – I brought three hospitals back from the verge of bankruptcy to expand into profitability and provide the highest level of care. In addition to leading hospitals, I served as President of PHMC Realty General Partnership, Robin’s Nest Child Care, and Phelps Professional Building L.P, and Chair of the NorMet Hospital Association and The ExcelCare System. I served on 20 boards of directors. I started a multi-specialty physician group that grew to 70 providers. Now serving as a CEO Advisor, I bring my decades of hands-on leadership experience in operations, strategy, and growth to guide established businesses, physician practices, and start-ups. I have been described as not only a strategic thinker but as a strategic “do-er” - not just envisioning the future but implementing it. And as a “proven executive with new and tested ideas, capable of building and adapting exciting and responsive programs in a collaborative leadership mode”. My educational background is unique: an MBA from the Wharton Graduate School of the University of Pennsylvania majoring in both Management and Health Care Administration, plus bachelor’s degrees in Industrial Engineering and Electrical Engineering from the University at Buffalo. I hold an Information Systems Certificate from Wharton, as well. CORPORATE & BOARD EXPERTISE: • Broad knowledge of business operations and strategy. Comfort with audit, compliance, compensation, and finance committees. • Extensive experience partnering with external constituencies, including regulators and labor unions. • Served on 20 boards of directors; officer of 6, founding member of 7.
