He was a member of the Hawke’s Bay District Health Board from 1998 until 2022. He was Chairman from 2001 until 2019. From 1998 to 2017 he was a Director/Chairman of Unison Networks Ltd, which owns the electricity distribution networks in Hawke’s Bay, Taupo and Rotorua. In 2020 he retired as a Director of New Zealand Health Partnerships Limited and as an elected Trustee of the Hawke's Bay Power Consumers Trust. For 8 years he was a Trustee and Deputy Chair of the Eastern and Central Community Trust, which donates money to community groups. He has also been involved with various Hawke’s Bay organizations in a voluntary capacity. He was a member of the EIT Hawke’s Bay Business and Computing Advisory Committee for 14 years. He was a Trustee of the Hawke’s Bay Medical Research Foundation for 11 years. He was a Director of the Hawke’s Bay Rugby Union for 19 years, and through his management skills, played a large part in establishing the organizations healthy financial position. He was Chairman and principal sponsor of the Hawks NBL basketball team through the 1990’s, and contributed to their successful results in the NBL competition during that period. He is currently a Patron of Hawks Basketball Incorporated. In 2020 he was appointed a Trustee of the Hawke’s Bay Digital Archives Trust (Hawke's Bay Knowledge Bank). He is a Chartered Fellow of the New Zealand Institute of Directors, CFInstD, a Fellow of the New Zealand Institute of Management, (FNZIM), and a member of the Institute of IT Professionals NZ. In the 2010 Queens Birthday Honours list he received the New Zealand Order of Merit (MNZM), for services to Business and the Community. In 2016 he was presented with a Paul Harris Fellowship by the Hastings Karamu Rotary Club for services to the Community.
