Kevin Mcnamee’s Expertise Kevin McNamee retired from Nokia in February 2024 after a career in software development spanning 49 years. During that time he worked on mainframes, saw the introduction of LANs and PC networks, experienced the introduction of the Internet and the world wide web, the proliferation of smartphone apps, and the introduction of generative AI and quantum computing. In the past 25 years he specialized in network and computer security. Before retirement, Kevin was the product manager for Nokia's Netguard Endpoint Security. This network based malware detection system allows network operators to detect malware activity from smartphones, tablets, computers and IOT devices in their network, providing enhanced security for 5G and future IOT networking. As director of Nokia's Threat Intelligence Lab he was responsible for the security research team that does the malware analysis and research to provide threat intelligence for Nokia's Security and IoT business. This research lab was originally developed to support the Kindsight malware detection system which was acquired by Alcatel-Lucent and subsequently Nokia. Before Kindsight he was director of security research at Alcatel-Lucent’s Bell Labs specializing in the analysis of malware propagation and malware detection. Kevin has also managed product development of Milkyway's Blackhole Firewall and TimeStep's IPSEC VPN product and was director of R&D for Alcatel's OmniAccess/IPSEC products. In his early career, Kevin worked at McGill University in Montreal where he was one of the key developers of the McGill University System for Interactive Computing (MUSIC). At its peak in the mid-eighties, this mainframe based operating system was used at over 250 universities and colleges. In recent years he presented at RSA, BlackHat, SECTOR, Virus Bulletin, ICS2, and BSides conferences.
