Lars Kayser’s Expertise My interests builds on an abundant experience, knowledge and skills within both medicine as a MD understanding the nature of diseases and how they impact individuals, pedagogical and didactic training working both with research, pregraduate curriculum design and development, implementation and informatics, participating in a number of research projects focusing on how to transform healthcare services using technology e.g. Patients and Professionals in Partnership (3P) in Norway and the Epital Care model. Currently these results are scaled up in an EU-Canadian project Smart Inclusive Living Environments (SMILE). Today, our work has resulted in a new important understanding of how researchers actively can contribute to the coming years’ national and international transformation of healthcare enabled by technology. We focus on how health care services can be organized and offered in a way which is tailored to individual’s needs, requirements and values. We also focus on how we can help individuals to engage with the introduced digital services and technologies. One approach will be to challenge the current unified health care service model and focus on how it can be divided into separate business models fulfilling the particular needs of health promotion, diagnosis treatment and rehabilitation, response to acute conditions and providing support for older adults with chronic conditions. In the coming years, we will in particular contribute with substantial evidence of why the future needs to focus on a holistic and health centered approach instead of a disease or person/patient centered. We will contribute with knowledge of how the benefits of technology can be realized through a capacity building of both service providers and service users. Here, we have experience with how to develop ways to stratify health and care services based on the users’ capabilities and requirements and avoid inequity introduced by technology building on our experience with the Epital Care Model and instruments to assess users digital health literacy and technology readiness. One example is the collaboration with Herlev-Gentofte Hospital in a project led by Rikke Terp, PhD, which focus on how to avoid unplanned contacts and hospital admissions by improving the nutritional and physical state of older adults assisted by technology. I hope that our research the coming years will actively contribute to the coming redesign of the Danish healthcare system and will welcome new collaborations with in particular clinicians and practitioners located in municipalities and hospitals.
