Lily Keane’s Expertise By way of background, I am currently in the midst of my research Masters in translational cancer medicine at Kings College London and would like to explore employment opportunities to further my career in oncology. The face of cancer therapy has changed over the past decade as incidence of cancer rises. In response to this threat, targeted anticancer therapies are beginning to emerge ushering in a new era in cancer drug development. I would like to become part of a dynamic company at the forefront of these developments. I have a 2H1 degree in Genetics from University College Cork. I have always had a strong desire to study genetics, because it is a highly challenging and exciting field of scientific research, ever evolving and developing. I was given the opportunity to study genetics in depth. In my final year I also studied microbiology, biochemistry, statistics, bioinformatics, immunology and oncology. I excelled in oncology receiving a 1H in this subject. The degree had an integrated lab placement. My placement focused on identifying new potential loci for restless leg syndrome, and provided me with the foundation skills necessary for working in a lab setting. I believe it was in this environment that I excelled, and obtained a 1H in this project. I am currently studying translational cancer medicine at King’s college London as part of the MRes programme on a full academic scholarship as I wanted the opportunity to study oncology in more depth. This research masters is divided into two six-month lab rotations. Translational cancer medicine is an innovative field, which hopes to bridge the gap between scientific research and the development of novel therapies for cancer patients I believe this Mres is preparing me for a career in cancer research. I am gaining substantial lab experience but also a meaningful insight into what is needed to successfully produce novel therapies for cancer patients. Specialties: Genetics, Immunology, Heamatology, Molecular Biology and Oncology
