Luis Apiolaza’s Expertise I am a quantitative forester—at the intersection of academia and industry—using maths & stats to understand and leverage natural variability. I domesticate tree species, develop economic breeding objectives to maximise firm profit, and breed populations for specific end products. I strive to explain this work in simple terms. I have been teaching future foresters for almost two decades. Google Scholar profile: https://scholar.google.com/citations?hl=en&user=ZH-Q8eQAAAAJ You can read PDFs of my publications here: https://luis.apiolaza.net/publications/ Claims to fame: * Working on breeding for solid wood properties of Eucalyptus species, mainly durability. * In 2008 I was one of the co-founders of the New Zealand Dryland Forests Innovation (née Initiative) to domesticate naturally durable Eucalyptus species. Early meetings with Paul Millen, Shaf van Ballekom, John Walker and Ruth McConnochie sounded like science fiction at the time. And here we are https://nzdfi.org.nz * A couple of decades ago (in 2001, time flies!) I created the ASReml Cookbook, which now lives here: https://asreml.kb.vsni.co.uk/knowledge-base/apiolaza-asreml-cookbook/
