This has given me tremendous insight as to how people act in their interviews and how that translates to real-world work ability. I have also trained every direct report working for me at Petco in broad topics such as animal care and maintenance, nutrition, customer service, and cash-handling. I have interviewed, selected, processed, trained, coached, disciplined, and terminated employees in almost every position I’ve held. Most importantly, I have the drive to succeed. At the risk of sounding cliché, I have the ability to learn very quickly because I am motivated to be the best in any given position. I do not settle for mediocrity and I am extremely dedicated to any position I take on. I would like to add that my retail experience is a valued strength--not a weakness. I know many employers tend to rule retail experience out, stating that retail and HR are drastically different fields. I respectfully disagree. I spent three months working as an HR analyst at Six Flags Magic Mountain, but have left that off of my resume because I feel my retail experience has taught me leagues more about legitimate Human Resources Management than Six Flags ever could. In retail, I was not solely relegated to a desk, filing paperwork, I was conducting interviews, administering performance reviews, creating annual incentive increases, and conducting disciplinary hearings. I am proud of my retail background and would like to opportunity to tailor my experience toward a formal career in Human Resources.
