Mark Sampson’s Expertise In 2010, I walked away from my multi-7-figure business. I didn't like who it had become. I felt I no longer belonged. And I had no way of changing it. I spent the next 4 years lost. I became a consultant, working with dozens of early-stage firms. And I noticed a pattern: 🔸 The companies that prioritised growth at all costs flailed. 🔸 They knew WHAT they sold. But they had no idea WHO THEY WERE. This led them to → Hire people who fractured their culture. → Tell a generic, undifferentiated story. → Have no reason for existing beyond making money. → Take on anybody as a client. They’d say things like: “This employee isn’t very ‘us’...” “These clients don’t get ‘us’...” “That behaviour isn't very ‘us’...” But they couldn’t define what “us” meant. I realised: 90% of what a company does is the same as everybody else. But the remaining 10% is entirely unique. I codified this 10% and called it the CORE Difference. C — Customer: who are you for? O — Origin: where are you from? R — Reason: why do you exist? E — Ethos: how do you behave? When a company’s CORE is explicit and strong, it becomes its greatest advantage. ✨ But when it’s implicit and weak, things can become unstable — and growth can stall. ――― Since this discovery, I became obsessed with helping companies find themselves. WHAT I DO TODAY: Look at business through the lens of identity. For 14 years, I’ve studied who organisations are *beyond* what they sell: 🧑🎓️ Who is your company? 🧑🎓️ Why do people choose it? 🧑🎓️ And how do you retain that magic as it grows? I’ve helped 120+ founders unpack these questions — and reveal startlingly transformative answers. In 2014, I founded Beliyf, a leading organisational identity practice serving growth-stage businesses. I’m regularly invited to speak and write about preserving your company DNA. I feel fortunate to spend my time helping organisations realise their full potential. I’m not afraid to ask tough questions. I shift perspectives, connect dots and reveal clarity. I get a buzz out of helping people see what they’re too close to see: the opportunities... and the obstacles. When a founder walks away feeling energised and understood — that’s when I know I’ve done my job. ――― Anybody can copy WHAT your business does. But nobody can steal WHO it is. That’s why solidifying your CORE matters. Without intentional self-discovery and reflection, it’s easy to end up becoming a company you never intended to – and perhaps don’t even like. Give your business the gift of clarity — Join me on this journey: marksampson.com
