She began her career as a traditional retouch artist, and has since held the title of Canadian National Artist of the Year six times, has attained her Craftsman and is a Fourth Bar Master of the Photographic Arts. Since moving to the USA she has also earned her Master Artist degree, Craftsman degree, and is Certified within the Professional Photographers of America. More recently she achieved another milestone in her career by becoming a professional photographer herself. In 2007, her first time entering print competition as a photographer, and less than 7 months behind the camera, she won 11 awards; among them a Kodak Gallery Award, two Fuji Masterpiece Awards and a Judges Choice for her photographic entries in the Wedding, Portrait and Illustrative categories. At the PPA International Photography Competition, she had all four of her images accepted, as well as one image published in the PPA Showcase Book and another in the PPA Loan Collection Book. She was especially honored to learn that she was one of PPA’s Silver Photographers of the Year. Marlene has had dozens of her images accepted into national loan collections; has been published in many trade and industry magazines in Canada; and she has had the honor of having 4 of her prints on display at the International Photography Hall of Fame. Marlene has spoken to sold out classes on many occasions and has conducted numerous workshops at national and state conventions, PPA affiliate schools, and given many private classes teaching the various topics that she has perfected both traditionally and digitally. She has also judged several photographic competitions in North America in a variety of categories; specialist, retouching, wedding, portrait, commercial, illustrative and has also judged alternative process for Hasselblad in New York.
