Matthias Wilke’s Expertise I am a German-American Aerospace Engineer with a Master’s Degree from the University of Michigan and an MBA from the University of Washington's Foster School of Business. I have over 18 years of experience in commercial airplane development at the Boeing Company. I have spent the last 10 years as an engineering manager, leading structural design teams on the 737 MAX, the 777X, and most recently, in Boeing’s Landing Gear Design Center. During that time, I have effectively lead development of aircraft structural design from early concept to service-ready product, coordinated both prototype and high-rate production manufacturing, and organized development testing as design risk mitigation and for certification. These diverse assignments have allowed me to work on both primary and secondary structure, with aluminum, titanium, and high-strength steels, fiberglass and carbon fiber composite materials, and a variety of complex mechanisms. I have led the integration of new airplane systems and manufacturing processes, both within my company and in coordination with external suppliers. Most importantly, my career has given me the opportunity to learn from and mentor incredibly talented engineers and build enduring friendships and a vast professional network. While these experiences have been challenging, they have also been rewarding and fulfilling. As a manager, I have had the honor of leading diverse, multi-generational teams of engineers to overcome setbacks, like prototype test failures, and to triumphs, like aircraft first flight and winning the 2018 Boeing Commercial Airplanes Engineering Team of the Year Award. I have guided the careers of many of my engineers so that they themselves have advanced to become technical and business leaders across the aerospace industry. I find great personal satisfaction in motivating and enabling my teams to success. I am thrilled at the prospect of applying everything I have learned to a new challenges, working with innovative teams on new, ecologically sustainable aircraft designs that will revolutionize air travel, a prospect that has captured my imagination since childhood.
