Wu is the principal author of a spatially explicit online model, WATER for water footprint of biofuels; water availability of fresh renewable and alternative water resource; and water consumption in petroleum production and electricity generation. Dr. Wu heads a project developing watershed models for the Mississippi River basin and its tributaries to examine the impact of biomass production, climate, conservation practices, and land use on regional water quality and value proposition. May’s another area of expertise is in LCA for fuels and LCA impacts of steel manufacturing optimized through high performance computing. May served as chair of Future Risk Technical Committee at AWRA, review panels for US and international agencies, Technical Advisor to Current, members of Modeling Working Group in Hypoxia Task Force, and GBEP AG6 Bioenergy and Water Working Group. Dr. Wu is a fellow of the Northwestern University-Argonne Institute of Science and Engineering. Dr. Wu has a diverse background that encompasses the areas of biofouling control, wastewater treatment, online monitoring, microbial-induced corrosion, fermentation, and membrane separation. Dr. Wu holds 60+ publications, 3 patents, and 1 R&D100 award; combined 17 years' experience in process engineering for water system and 15 years’ experience in analysis and modeling.
