Michael Apsokardu’s Expertise My experience is in mass spectrometry designing, validating, and applying standard ESI and LC-MS methods for the purpose of small molecule analysis to study complex chemical systems. Methods are adapted to a host of GC, LC, and MS instruments. I am directly responsible for performance maintenance and tuning of Q-ToF mass spectrometers, a nano-UPLC, and GC-MS. To supplement traditional LC and ESI methods, I have designed and interfaced a custom ion source to the Waters Synapt G2-S. I also have additional experience building a time-of-flight MS to determine elemental composition via laser induced plasma ionization. As a result of this hands-on experience, I have a strong background in maintenance and tuning of a variety of instruments, both commercial and home built. The above methods were applied to a specific example as part of my thesis research characterizing atmospheric aerosols, but the skills developed during this work can be effectively used to address any chemical problem.
