Michael Gschwind’s Expertise I am building the next-gen AI platform at Meta for accelerating Large Language Models from servers to on-device AI on mobile phones and embedded devices. At present, I am leading the development of Meta’s software stack and best practices to support deployment of accelerators at scale to support over a billion users on server and mobile platforms. I’ve led and/or personally developed the APIs for accelerator deployment at scale, for model performance optimization, automated inference hyperparameter optimization, model performance and correctness testing, and Meta’s environment for continuous integration and deployment of AI models on GPUs and accelerators. I’ve taken Meta from 0 => many of the largest model’s in our industry deployed on GPUs and accelerators, including the first large language models deployed at scale in our industry, and launching accelerated recommendation novels for Reels, highlighted by Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg as driving a 30% user surge within 2 weeks of deployment during the Q2 2022 earnings call. Since then, I’ve focused on creating software stacks to exploit accelerators with a focus on user experience, developer productivity and time to market. Most recently prior to joining Meta, I was VP and Chief Architect for Artificial Intelligence at Huawei where I led the AI development; served as Project Lead and Chief Engineer at IBM where I created the Enterprise AI program, built the AI team from ground up to be a high-performance business driver and created Watson Machine Accelerator (né PowerAI), IBM's platform for AI.
