Manufactured all brass components used in the assembly of Fisher Space Pen Co. pens.Designed hardware for writing instruments utilizing Solidworks and ACAD software. Revised and updated existing hardware as needed for continual product improvement. Digitized all drawings for all manufactured products. Implemented inspection procedures and support documentation for purchased hardware and materials. Setup in house photography processing lab. Trained personnel in the use of Canon digital camera equipment and Photoshop post processing for product photography as needed for website, flyers, catalogs, and brochures. Audited vendors for related processes, procedures, materials, and supplies to insure finished hardware met dimensional and finish requirements (plating, powder coating, lacquer, etc.) pre, and post purchase. Devised method of etching brass to analyze and measure grain size and structure utilizing high power microscope and related photography equipment to insure product reliability. Designed and manufactured automatic machines and fixtures to assemble writing instrument components.Worked as machinist/toolmaker at Fisher from 1993 to 1996 until opening “Boulder Precision” a Davenport screw machine shop manufacturing hardware used in the assembly of Fisher Space Pens. Paul Fisher (owner and inventor of “Fisher Space Pen” products) requested that I return to Fisher Space Pen Co. in 1998 as Quality Assurance Manager. I accepted the position in 1998 implementing specific inspection criteria and corresponding documentation to control dimensional and finish specification requirements (plating, powder coat, lacquer coat, nitride coating etc.) for all manufactured hardware. Criteria included destructive and non-destructive test methods and procedures to insure inherent product reliability, longevity, and quality per our lifetime warranty. Setup Boulder Precision Davenport shop in- house at Fisher, and trained personnel to setup and operate Davenport screw machines to manufacture all precision brass hardware components for Fisher Space Pens in house.Directly accountable for sales, customer service, purchasing, quality control, shipping and receiving, and general accounting, of precision machining business operations for the manufacture of Bio-medical, Microwave, Aerospace, and Wind Power industries. Hired, trained, and supervised warehouse and machinist staff. Maintained and expanded the associated vendor base for a variety of services. Strengthened and expanded customer base resulting in 19% increase in net profit.Quoting, sales, production scheduling, purchasing, and quality control management for precision machining and fabrication facility. Updated quality control standard to Mil-I-45208 to attain “Qualified Vendor” rating, enabling us to quote, and manufacture parts for Aerospace Prime Contractors. Awarded “Time and Materials” contracts with United Technologies to manufacture sensor housings for Rocket Motor testing, air intake system for a prototype F16 aircraft model, and some very cool anti-missile rocket propelled strafing system etc. Contracted with Westinghouse Corporation to manufacture hardware for their “Missile Launching and Guidance System” (MX missile system). Built explosive test fixtures to simulate shearing the rotating blades off military helicopters in emergencies, and simulate blowing the canopy off aircraft in emergencies. We also manufactured Titan II missile system explosive “Fuse Blocks” to initiate rocket motor separation in stages.Managed a staff of thirty to fifty personnel for precision machining, sheet metal fabrication, and welding of hardware used in the manufacture of Wafer Probers, Nitride Reactors, Wafer Deposition, and Memory Test Systems. Directed the relocation and layout of a new manufacturing/machine shop facility. Directly responsible for capital equipment expenditures and the associated setup, programming, operation and training of personnel on all new and used CNC machine tools, manual machinery, and support equipment. Designed and manufactured tooling and fixturing. Started employ as an apprentice machinist, advanced to journeyman, promoted to supervisor, then salaried manager.
