Michael Powter’s Expertise A motivated and innovative protective security specialist and crisis manager, Michael has worked in the counter terrorism and security fields with private sector commercial interests, the NSW Government and the Australian Defence Force for over 30 years. In NSW Government, as the Director Counter Terrorism he managed the NSW State Crisis Centre, including the first ever terrorist incident activation of an Australian crisis centre during the Martin Place Siege (Lindt Cafe) in 2014. Michael was also responsible for the NSW Critical Infrastructure Protection and Resilience Program for over 10 years. For 23 years Michael served with the Australian Army. Highlights of this service include: * Five years attached to NSW Police Force as the Senior Defence Liaison Officer to the NSW Police Olympic Security Command Centre, for which he was recognised in the 2001 Queen's Birthday Honours. * Operational service in Iraq in 2003 with the Special Operations Component Forward Command Element. Tertiary qualifications in business administration, security risk management and counter terrorism including advanced Israeli counter terrorism/physical security training; and the Counter Terrorism Executive Program at the University of Southern California’s – National Centre for Risk & Economic Analysis of Terrorism Events (CREATE). Comprehensive exposure to security policy, policy development and regulatory frameworks for government (PSPF) and the private sector. Israeli training has provided a unique ability to be able to look at security vulnerabilities from a threat perspective (also known as red teaming). Michael is highly regarded for his ability to to identify enterprise security risks, translate results of assessments and analysis into authoritative, effective and proportionate protective security advice to organisations of varying size.
