  Hi there! My name is Mikaela and I am currently a senior at San Jose State University studying Behavioral Science with an emphasis in Anthropology. I have always loved being around people and working with my peers to make a difference in my community. Whether it be big or small. This is why I chose to study Behavioral Science in school. Behavioral Science is the study of Psychology, Anthropology, and Sociology combined to get a better understanding of not just the individual, but also our communities and outside factors that contribute to what makes up a society. My educational background has helped me to develop an overall understanding of social sciences with their influence on society and the associations between individuals within that society. It has also helped me obtain professional experience working in education at the high school level for 3 years, as not only a tutor, but also as an Academic Advisor for 1 year and continuing. I would like to think that my dedicated time served at both of these positions make me a more well-rounded candidate able to handle the rigors of people from different ages and backgrounds in any job I take. Education has been a passion of mine since I started working in this field 4 years ago. I would love any opportunity to further enhance my skills in any department of education whether it be now or after graduation. To tell you a little more about myself, I am a very social person and love working in environments where I am around people. I'm also an incredibly flexible person. Working in education right now has taught me that flexibility and communication skills are a must. As we all know, COVID-19 has delivered us with some trying times, however, I have not let that stop my workflow. I have adapted to the virtual environment very well, and have enjoyed still being able to still work alongside my colleagues. Aside from my work and school, I am a busy-body. I love to work on little projects that require me to do learn new things. I am a huge fan of DIY projects and if there is something that interests me, but maybe I don't have access to it, I will definitely try to do it myself. Doing things myself has definitely taught me that there is a huge difference between accepting that you failed at something, and knowing that you failed, but looking for the mistakes you made and working on them for the next time you try.
