I am a pediatrician whose career has been devoted to the breastfeeding dyad for over thirty years. I am currently a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics, a Fellow of the Academy of Breastfeeding Medicine and Certified as an IBCLC. I attended the University of Virginia School of Medicine and completed pediatric residency at the University of California, San Diego. I have been an academician as well as working with breastfeeding families since the 1980’s. I formerly owned “Breastfeeding Medicine of Kansas” a private practice assisting families with breastfeeding problems. I also worked as the Medical Director for Lactation Services at Wesley Medical Center’s Neonatology Department for nearly 15 years. Over the past ten years I broadened my clinical and research activities by branching out into several different areas: Distinguished Professor in The College of Health Professions at Wichita State University (primarily a research-oriented position); pediatric hospitalist with University of Kansas-Wichita; and lastly moonlighting to provide neonatal resuscitation at the low risk birthing center for Wesley Medical Center in Wichita. I have given presentations and taught clinical lactation management throughout the U.S., and eight foreign countries. I served as a consultant or technical advisor for breastfeeding projects and worked in international health with child survival programs.
