  Having started my career as a Senior Technical Engineer in the fertilizer division of EID Parry, managing production of complex fertilizers, my love of software design and development led me to build a simulation program to reduce the cost of manufacture, which set me off on my exciting career path in IT. During my stint in Misys, I worked on building and selling a Universal Banking and Branch Automation suite of products at banks across Asia, Europe and Africa. This gave me a lot of experience in back-office and branch automation products on different platforms including Unix, Windows and AS400. I moved to the UK in 2005 as the Lead Business Architect responsible for defining industry standard data models and specifications for SOA compliant common components reusable across the entire banking portfolio. I joined Barclays in 2012 working on a strategic customer data platform and since then have been involved in a number of key initiatives in the bank. My current role as the Head of Global Data Platforms and the Barclays Information Warehouse (BIW 2.0) has given me some unique skills and experience in building and supporting a Big Data (Hadoop) based datalake and warehouse for one of the largest banks in the UK. My rich work experience over the last 25+ years has given me a range of strong skills in both business strategy and technical (architecture and design) domains. This includes leading offshore delivery teams with accountability to deliver large projects to strict deadlines. I am currently working on moving our data platforms to the Cloud to support the bank's ever growing needs for complex data analysis and machine learning using large datasets. I also work on strategies in the field of customer data and analytics platforms across the group.
