A chartered civil engineer and waste manager, over the last four decades I have worked for technical and financial consultants, contractors, investors and for public clients and so can offer a unique perspective on waste issues and opportunities. In Hong Kong, I became an expert advisor on the development of Hong Kong’s waste management infrastructure; both strategically through feasibility studies and physically through the development of the strategic landfills, refuse transfer stations and processing facilities. In particular I advised the Hong Kong government on the strategy for management of construction wastes and opportunities for reuse. I am presently leading Alba Integrated Waste Services (HK) Ltd which is a JV which developed, and now operates on behalf of the Hong Kong Government, the first project of its kind in Hong Kong to manage WEEE materials in an integrated way, from collection to processing. In the UK I have advised both as a technical and financial consultant on various aspects of recycling and recovery of waste. These have included major PFI/PPP Integrated Waste Management Projects using a variety of technological options. I also acted as the Interim Director for the Dorset Waste Partnership. I was a Co-opted Expert to the Commission for Sustainable London 2012. For many years I was the Chair the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) Waste and Resource Management Board as well the ICE London Waste and Resources panel.
