My new philosophy is to help the student overcome their wellness needs, and their learning will always follow in a stronger and more driven direction than before. I have been researching empathy-based teaching practices and positioning myself to use them in the teaching world. At Chugiak, I worked as an instructional coach with the Capturing Kids Hearts national curriculum. Our school recently received the recognition of Model School showcasing our use of research-based empathy models to build school community. My next step is to examine how schools specifically look at wellness. A wellness-coaching program should be a staple of the education program, just like it is emerging as an essential support service in higher education and other communities like healthcare services. As we ask students to master their motivation to demonstrate learning in reading, writing, mathematics, and finding their passions, a wellness coach is showing to be a difference-maker for the students actualizing their success.
