Paula Hamalainen’s Expertise On Our Radar is a communications agency for unheard communities. We create new channels and opportunities for people on the margins of society to share their stories and experiences. Supported by a team drawn from the media, technology and charity sectors, our award-winning 'communications hub' enables citizen reporters from remote and marginalised communities to share their experiences with national and international media, policy makers and service providers. On Our Radar's reporters have covered issues as diverse as national elections, dementia, homelessness and the Ebola outbreak for media outlets including BBC TV and Radio (national and international broadcasts), Sky News, The Guardian, and Channel 4 among others. Alongside partners such as Christian Aid, Comic Relief and Leonard Cheshire Disability, we have trained reporter networks in Sierra Leone, Nigeria, India, Kenya and the UK. As a Communications and Partnerships Assistant supported the health, growth and development of strategic partnerships and external identity. WWW.ONOURRADAR.ORG. Canth is a feminist and antiracist Finnish independent online media on politics, culture, life and art. WWW.CANTHMAG.FI. Back in Touch is an interactive feature comprising a series of 8 short films narrated by a group of citizen reporters from Sierra Leone. The films are universal stories that explore how community, family and friendship were affected by a crisis that put a whole country on hold - for over a year during the crisis, all public gatherings were banned, and people were afraid to even greet each other in the street for fear of infection. It is an interactive feature that allows the audience to communicate directly with the narrators of the story. The audience are asked questions relating to the content of the films to encourage them to put themselves in the shoes of the people who lived through Ebola. Funded by the European Journalism Centre’s grant for Innovation in Development Journalism, it’s also been published by Le Parisien (France), De Correspondent (Netherlands), Internazionale (Italy) and aired by the Channel 4 News in the UK. WWW.BACKINTOUCH.ORG. Cold Rush is a landmark feature documentary exploring the beauty and drama of the High Arctic through its rapidly changing human geography. Around the world as receding ice caps reveal our once frozen prehistory, the future of this territory - political, cultural, economic, environmental - is yet to be decided.
