  Short Bio Appleton’s collaborative research has centered on the convergence of virtual, augmented, interactive, telematic and telepresence technologies in the creation of mixed reality experiences, installations, music and artworks. Before becoming Reader in Creative Technology at the International Centre for Digital Content in 2004 Appleton had been a co founder and then Head of Interactive Arts at the University of Wales College Newport. He is now reader at Liverpool School of Art and Design at Liverpool John Moores University and teachers on the Fine Art programme. His more personal research over the past 40 years into electro acoustics and how they could interact with people and environments has resulted in invented instruments, commissioned exhibitions, sited objects and performance shifting between areas of experimental Jazz, installation and sound sculpture. Most recently and having turned 60 Appleton has returned to a more personal enquiry around the production of sound works and image making closer to the painterly and musical aspirations of his early career as an art student and musician. This is an exploration of the existential individual condition and its relationship to nature and the divine.
