Peter Qin’s Expertise Our research focuses on understanding structure, dynamics, and function of nucleic acids and protein/nucleic acid complexes. A specialty of our group is the development and application of a biophysical method, called Site-Directed Spin Labeling (SDSL), to monitor structure and dynamics of nucleic acids and protein-nuclei acid complexes under physiological conditions. Current projects focus on using spin-labeling in conjunction with other biophysical and biochemical tools to investigate the CRISPR-Cas systems that revolutionize genome engineering; and the unique non-canonical nucleic acid G-quadruplexes that play an important role in regulating gene expression.
