Peter Wilkens’s Expertise I am an experienced Safety Leader and Senior Manager, influencing and driving strategic improvements across complex, multisite organisations (including the RNLI) to keep people safe through effective safety management. I champion principles of modern safety thinking and lead change with systems thinking; solving problems in demanding situations by engaging and building trust with stakeholders. I am a Chartered Member of IOSH (CMIOSH), a qualified Lead Auditor and I hold an Associate Certificate in Environmental Management (PIEMA). Prior to joining the RNLI I was Head of HSEQ at Space Engineering Services where I led safety improvements within the refrigeration, mechanical and electrical industry. I have also spent several years influencing change within the power transmission and distribution industry and at petrochemical, power generation, manufacturing and construction sites across the UK. I have developed HSEQ functions, including the implementation of 18001 (45001) Safety Management Systems and led several initiatives and projects to improve safety, not only for the organisations I worked for, but also wider industry, by working with clients and suppliers on a range of health and safety challenges including working at height, lone working, confined spaces and the installation and testing of high-pressure systems. Currently at the RNLI I lead change in delivery of SHE training and engagement to build trust and promote a culture where people feel comfortable sharing learning. This is important so that we can understand work done versus work as imagined and put measures in place to enhance the system that keeps our people safe. My areas of expertise include: safety strategy, management and reporting, stakeholder engagement, modern safety thinking, organisational change, auditing, investigation, training, International management systems, operational risk management, human factors, safety culture, team building and leadership, programme and project delivery,
