My interests are mostly in the domain of experimental and applied physics, R&D, sensors, computing. Currently, I am involved in the upgrade of the LHCb experiment at the CERN LHC collider (mechanics, cooling, infrastructure) and preparations for the future SHiP experiment at the CERN SPS (data acquisition, active muon shield). Former career: After making a PhD in experimental particle physics, since 1978 through 2005, I worked as a physicist in several international projects at CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research in Geneva (since 1991 - full time at CERN). In 2006-2010 I worked in the industry as a Senior Scientist in R&D, with the focus on instrumentation for life sciences (drug discovery and molecular diagnostics). Since 2012 through November 2015 - at CERN again, as a Project Associate in the LHCb project at the Large Hadron Collider. Latest accomplished projects: development of a commercial ultrasonic distance measuring device with Bluetooth-based remote control and inductive charging; photo-detector cooling system design, validation of environment-friendly refrigerants.
