They also permitted me to pursue my personal challenge—finding a simple solution to the “impossible” requirements (complex solutions are relatively easy). Those projects led to some of my best achievements. Two that stand out are: • Devising a new type of tensioner control system that was adopted by the offshore drilling industry. • Developing an improved, second-generation riser recoil control system that removed several barriers to adoption of this safety device for offshore drilling. I prefer to work independently but I also work well with others. I was a member of: • an intergovernmental committee • an international association committee—as chair • two international technical committees—both as vice-chair I also received an ASME Certificate of Acclimation for some of my committee work. My opportunities and recognition were as much a result of working with others as they were due to my technical ability. During my engineering career I produced numerous written documents. I also had a major role in revising two 150+ page published standards. • Me Today • I currently write white papers for clients' mechanical equipment offerings. A white paper must educate its readers regarding a problem, a solution to that problem and an implementation of that solution. When it comes to mechanical equipment, my mechanical engineering background makes me the perfect choice to prepare a white paper that educates its readers. I'm thankful for the career opportunities I've had but I still look forward to my next challenge.
