Pravinkumar Ghodake’s Expertise I am a Research Scholar at IIT Bombay, with a research focus spanning theoretical, computational, and experimental mechanics. My current research delves into nonlinear wave phenomena in engineering materials, particularly focusing on harmonic generation, wave mixing, and harmonic scattering. This work combines theoretical and computational approaches to deepen our understanding of these intriguing nonlinear effects. Consequently, we can quantify early-stage damage at the micro-meso scale in engineering materials, facilitating the monitoring of structural health from the initial damage phases. To complement this, I utilize experimental nonlinear ultrasonics, a versatile technique applicable in structural and biomedical health monitoring, including super-resolution imaging. I've designed and developed the experimental setup from scratch to reveal the captivating behaviors of nonlinear waves in metallic materials. I'm creating linear and nonlinear metamaterials with an inverse design to control elastic waves in time and frequency domains. These materials exhibit various traits like multi-material composition, periodicity, quasi-periodicity, non-periodicity, direction-dependence, mode-independence, and more. I'm also studying spatial and temporal linear and nonlinear metamaterials (e.g., functionally graded, time-dependent 4D) for novel elastic wave control. The inverse design is ongoing. I seek to merge diverse research domains to enhance health monitoring, including Metamaterials, Nonlinear Waves, Inverse Design, Nonlinear Ultrasonics, Physical Acoustics, AI/ML for Structural Health Monitoring, NDE 4.0, IoT, 3D Printing/Additive Manufacturing, Composite Materials, Impact, and Fracture Mechanics. This journey marks the inception of a transformative research universe, one that revolves around nonlinear elastic metamaterials—a universe poised to redefine the boundaries of elastic wave manipulation.
