  Being interested in both animals and nutrition, I have been devoting myself in animal nutrition field since 2004, with a focus on ruminant nutrition and physiology. I started my Ph.D. in Dr. Shawn Donkin's lab at Purdue University in Fall 2010. The overall goal of our lab was to provide feeding and management strategies for promoting production efficiency and well-being of ruminant animals. My projects focused on hormonal and nutritional regulation of endogenous glucose production in liver of dairy cattle, which is directly related to milk yield and health condition of dairy cattle. Animal model and cell culture model were used to conduct both applied and basic research. A variety of molecular techniques were utilized to investigate nutrient-gene interactions and solve practical problems at the molecular nutrition level. I joined Dr. Heather White’s lab at UW-Madison as a postdoctoral research fellow in August 2015. My major focus was to investigate the effects of nutrients (different forms of methionine (Met), conjugated linoleic acids (CLA), etc.) on liver metabolism and function using bovine hepatocytes primary culture as a model. Benefits of supplementation of Met or CLA have been observed on production performance of dairy cows. The goal of my research was to illustrate the hepatic responses to these nutrients at the level of gene expression and provide fundamental guidelines for promoting production and health of dairy cows, especially during the transition period.
