Radha Dutta’s Expertise - Used SAS JMP, Microsoft Excel, and Numerical Python liberally to organize and categorize time-staffing related data related from an initiative stated by the Camden Coalition of Health Care Providers in an effort to study the cost expenditures associated with emergency care patient visits - Used techniques from Stochastic Operations Research (primarily Discrete-Time Markov Chains) as well as probability to design a tool in Microsoft Excel to predict future staffing needs from data above. - Served as a Co-Teaching Assistant for a Stochastic Operations Research course (MIE 379) in the Department of Mechanical & Industrial Engineering during Fall 2016 - Graded weekly homework and provided feedback for students to improve performance - Held weekly office hours for students to seek assistance on homework assignments or installing/using software applications relevant to the course - Provided guidance for students to design and plan out an optimization based term project - Created and distributed an installation manual of AMPL, an industry-regarded software tool used in solving a variety of relevant optimization problems, for students' use. - Collaboratively designed a new framework for data collection, reporting and statistical analysis using Microsoft Access/Excel/SharePoint for a subsection of the Fund Administration Risk Controls in the global Corporate & Investment Bank - In a team, designed an interactive capacity planning timeline using Microsoft Excel/VBA programming to aid local Mutual Fund Financial Reporting teams visualize and manage workload for preparing and scheduling client deliverables to key stakeholders in a timely and effective manner - For capacity planning tool above, comprehensively prepared step-by-step procedures also known as Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to minimize miscommunication and ensure efficiency of software use for future users in management across different locations. - Independently developed "Ice Patrol" a first draft of a PC game aimed at younger students with the goal of climate science in Python with liberal use of the PyGame programming package - Incorporated collision detection, graphics, sound, animation and realistic ocean speed in game with data available from the Earth System Research Laboratory (ESRL) with the use of the Numerical Python package - Presented research findings and finished product to students and academic researchers in the Department of Geosciences at University of Massachusetts Amherst.- Conducted predictive climate science research under Distinguished Professor David Randall, Director of the Center for Multiscale Modeling of Atmosphere Processes (CMMAP) at Colorado State University - Analyzed nonlinear time series data of SPCAM-model-generated precipitation on varying timescales to detect chaotic numerical patterns by analyzing approximated Lyapunov Exponents - Calculated the Relative Standard Deviation (RSD) of datasets of intense rainfall as a basis for exploring and categorizing unpredictability in statistical data - Extensively used Numerical Python (NumPy) and matplotlib packages for statistical/mathematical analysis and geographic mapping/visualizations - Used other software as necessary for conducting analysis (i.e. MATLAB or Unix command line) - Presented key research findings at a Department-wide presentation (community of students and atmospheric science researchers), at a Student Symposium, and at the American Geophysical Union's Fall Meeting in December 2015 in San Francisco, CA. - Prepared 75-minute review sessions twice weekly for students enrolled in General Physics II - Aided groups of 5-30 students with guided practice problems and exam review - Attended classes and advertised sessions to class sizes 150+. - Collaborated and interacted with other student workers to ensure that the laboratory and simulation equipment at the Clinical Simulation Laboratory at the College of Nursing at University of Massachusetts Amherst was cleaned, organized and prepared for use - For 30+ student and faculty classrooms, ensured that hands-on learning simulations were ready and that expensive equipment was maintained - Documented inconsistencies and updated procedures for maintaining equipment and supplies if necessary. - Collected and analyzed data related to Physics of Baseball simulations using Microsoft Excel and Tracker software - Developed a mathematical algorithm to detect the microscopic timeline of a baseball pitch - Aided in the development and testing of an apparatus to simulate airflow on a spinning baseball also known as "Magnus Effect" - Marketed "Newton at the Ballpark" science outreach theme at Worcester Bravehearts intercollegiate Baseball games by creating presentations to relay scientific knowledge to the public More Info: http://news.holycross.edu/blog/2014/08/07/three-holy-cross-students-hit-a-grand-slam-with-their-summer-research/.
