He also built ARM processor models and h/w-s/w co-verification tools at Synopsys prior to his PhD. For his doctoral dissertation, he built multi-cloud storage system called SafeStore on top of S3 (in 2006/2007 when AWS was the only cloud) and the distributed BFT (Byzantine Fault tolerant) consensus protocol called Zyzzyva, which forms the basis for some of the decentralized ledger protocols before Bitcoin was born in 2008. Zyzzyva and SafeStore received best paper awards in top systems conferences (SOSP'2007 and Usenix'2007); also featured in CACM research highlights section, which features the best work in computer science across various sub-disciplines.
