Robert Fisher’s Expertise I am a Safety Professional who eats and sleeps (when I can) EHS. It has been my passion since my stint in the military. I have found that building a culture of safety involves more than just Risk Assessment, Human Organizational Performance, Heat Maps and checklists. My experience tells me that the best way to improve a safety culture is to understand the things that may cause an incident. What I have found is that there are numerous things that cause employees to work in an unsafe manner. From poor procedures to improper or deficient hand tools. Employees do not come to work with the intention of getting injured. We as EHS Professionals must dive deeply into the work environment and eliminate these deficiencies to the best of our ability. Knowing each of the employees you represent has been the best way for me to accomplish this. I have used Safety Observations as one of my means to accomplish this. We also have instituted simple Safety Concerns for the employees to fill out. The results have been tremendous. I have been fortunate to have a smaller work force 107 employees in Erie and 43 in Emporium. But I believe if you can focus your time and get to know the employees you can become very successful in EHS. I know it says summary....lol.
