(Theatre) Company, Gypsy, Steel Magnolias, A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, My Fair Lady, She Loves Me, Ma Rainey's Black Bottom, The Boys from Syracuse, Bizet's Carmen, Gian Carlo Menotti’s L'Amour à trois, The Wild Party (LaChuisa), Bob Marley's Three Little Birds, A Kids Play About Racism, and The Imaginaries with Bay Area Children's Theatre, The Watsons Go To Birmingham 1963 with First Stage in Millwaukee, Wisconsin, And most recently Cavalli’s Eliogabalo and Handel’s Julius Caesar with West Edge Opera. In 2018, Mr. McCan was selected by Carol Shorenstein-Hays to direct the Curran Theatre Season Announcement, which included the Tony Award Winning Dear Evan Hansen and a performance with over 150 Students from the Bay Area. In 2015, he received a double nomination for Best Costume Design of a Musical from the BroadwayWorld.com Awards, and is also the recipient of two Rita Moreno California High School Musical Honors for his work as Director of the Musical Theatre Department at the Ruth Asawa School of the Arts, and has sent two Student Finalist to represent the San Francisco Bay Area in the The National High School Musical Theatre Awards (the 'Jimmy Awards'). In addition to his role as a teacher, he also developed and enforced policies and objectives for the Friends of Ruth Asawa School of the Arts (FOSOTA) - a nonprofit fundraising foundation with a 1M budget dedicated to championing arts education and arts-based learning at San Francisco’s groundbreaking public arts high school. Additionally, Mr. McCan has also spent over 30 years advocating for the rights of Children, Youth and Families by working with various organizations in the San Francisco Bay Area and across the nation to create programs and structures that were inclusive of the wants and needs of young people. He has worked with The San Francisco Youth Commission, San Francisco Recreation and Parks Department, Governor Gavin Newsom, Former Mayor Willie L. Brown, Lavendar Youth Recreation and Information Center (LYRIC), and has served as a Board Member for Community Network For Youth Development, The Boys and Girls Club of America, The Friends of the Ruth Asawa School of the Arts Foundation, and The National Foundation for Teaching Entrepreneurship and has been recognized by the California State Assembly and The San Francisco Board of Supervisors.
