Sharanbaswa Vishwanath’s Expertise I love to develop probabilistic models to evaluate the life-cycle risk and resilience of civil infrastructure systems susceptible to multiple hazards such as earthquake, corrosion, flood, etc. I firmly believe in building and maintaining resilient and sustainable future civil infrastructure systems. To achieve this goal, I will strive to adopt optimized structural design strategies for potential multi-hazard scenarios, considering structural deterioration during the service life of a structure. I specialize in: * Probabilistic evaluation of seismic performance of bridges * Life-cycle seismic resilience of pristine and aging bridges * Modelling of performance-based post-event recovery * Stochastic modelling of chloride-induced corrosion of rebar in reinforced concrete structures * Uncertainty quantification in vulnerability assessment Notable work: * Developed a quantitative assessment tool to estimate the seismic resilience of aging bridges in a life- cycle context. For this, time-dependent bridge seismic vulnerability model, traffic data-based loss assessment model, and seismic damage state-dependent functionality recovery model are developed. * Developed a post-event recovery model that is beneficial after a natural disaster event. This model can generate different recovery paths based on the nature of the bridge damage, the likely time to mobilize recovery actions, and the time to complete the recovery process. * An improvement on the existing methodology for life-cycle seismic risk assessment of bridge piers is proposed by incorporating spatial randomness of early-age cracks on pier surfaces. Spatial randomness of early-age surface cracks on bridge piers is modelled through a homogeneous Poisson point process and marked point process. This adopted easy-to-apply probability-based approach provides a feasible alternative to model surface cracks on any reinforced concrete member without exploring fundamental mechanisms behind the generation of the cracks. * Developed physics-based framework for corrosion generation and propagation model can realistically capture the pitting phenomenon when spatial randomness of corrosion parameters is considered.
