Simon Gibbs’s Expertise I am a specialist haematologist with experience in the diagnosis and treatment of a wide range of malignant and benign haematological disorders, including AL and ATTR amyloidosis, multiple, myeloma, acute and chronic forms of leukaemia, clotting and red cell disorders. More recently, I have been involved in Clinical Development and Medical Affairs in Pharma in ATTR amyloidosis. I had particular research experience and interest in the diagnosis and treatment of plasma cell disorders, including multiple myeloma, all forms of amyloidosis (AL, AA, ATTR, LECT2 and hereditary types), MGUS and monoclonal immunoglobulin deposition disease. In September 2014, I established the Victorian and Tasmanian Amyloidosis Service to raise awareness of amyloidosis in south east Australia and to ensure that patients could receive the best available clinical trial and novel therapeutics access. I was one of the four founding members of the Australian Amyloidosis Network Ltd, and I was honored to chair this charity from its start in late 2015 until February 2024. I am currently taking a break from clinical work and I am completing a Professional Fellowship with BridgeBio Pharma in New York, a company committed to discovering cures for rare inherited diseases. My main focus for the Fellowship is researching the potential for acoramidis, a near-complete transthyretin stabiliser, to prevent the development of ATTR amyloidosis disease in those with high risk transthyretin gene variants.
