As a mathematics teacher, it is my job to make math more interesting and engaging for my students. I believe in exploratory learning and cooperative activities, as well as the use of Bloom’s taxonomy to increase conceptual understanding. In my classroom I will have a standard structure of activities that most classes will follow, and students will know their expectations during those activities. I believe being organized and prepared, and therefore preventing disruptions, is a better alternative to discipline. Students deserve more than one opportunity to show that they understand the material, and I will facilitate that with the use of journals, group activities, and projects on top of traditional paper assessments. I believe that a teacher’s job does not end when the last bell of the day rings. It is my job as a teacher to be there for every student every day; they deserve to have someone on their side, pushing them to be the best that they can be. I will be involved in the planning and supervision of activities as well as continuing professional development.
