Uniquely these drugs have excellent tissue penetration even across the blood brain barrier. In addition, once located within hypoxic tumour cells they are reduced to stable persistent compounds which compromise the ability of tumours to regrow and metastasize. This provides a means of enhancing the effect of the majority of other cancer treatments such as standard chemotherapy, immunotherapy and radiotherapy all of which fail to effectively eradicated tumour cells which are hypoxic.
