  When I was little, my parents bought my brother and I a toy by the name of Stretch Armstrong. I always thought it was fascinating how I could pull on Stretch's arm like a piece of taffy and it would bounce back into shape. During college freshman orientation, something in my brain told me to change my declared major of mechanical engineering to metallurgical engineering. Maybe it was Stretch. I never would have guessed twenty plus years later, the breadth of experiences to which I have been exposed would span working for the Air Force, industry, and academia. As time progressed I knew my passion was for materials characterization, failure analysis, and consultation. Along the way I learned to embrace being challenged as it opened the door for me to be creative in finding solutions. I always speak my mind and this has sometimes gotten me in trouble. I believe in teamwork and individual respect. And I admire the experts that admittedly tell you 'I don't know'. I enjoy being part of organizations who believe what they do makes a difference. My professional experience includes R&D of various metals, polymers, and coatings. My escapades in engineering have provided me with a broad proficiency in the use of metallurgical and materials engineering instrumentation, methods, tools, and techniques. Business needs have resulted in successfully led projects which opened the door to experiencing several aspects of manufacturing. Most recently I have directed a group of PhD's within multi-million dollar materials services laboratory within a prestigious university. I love staying busy and learning outside of the profession. In fact, I decided to obtain my teaching license in high school physics and AP Physics. I want to be an example of the engineering discipline and to mentor students who may be apprehensive about the STEM field. Case Western Reserve University
