Stephen Blakeway’s Expertise I work for a 'One Welfare' world - recognising that the health and welfare of people has to be in balance with the health and welfare of the whole biosphere. Think global biodiversity loss, climate change, and all the UN SDGs. The current approach is not working. Selfishness and rapacious capitalism are destroying our world. We need diverse creativities to find a better way forward. My academic qualifications are in animal welfare, veterinary, and teaching. My preferred working approach is for facilitating learning, community-based approaches, local empowerment. The One Welfare approach was recognised by the OIE (the World Animal Health Organisation) at their meeting in Mexico in December 2016. I have worked at Executive Director level and as a Charity Trustee. I have practical project management and evaluation experience in veterinary service delivery in remote or otherwise marginalised areas; in working animals, particularly donkeys; and in eradication programmes for Rinderpest and PPR. I specialise in practical approaches to improving animal welfare, strengthening human-animal relationships, and extending the reach of veterinary services. I enjoy direct work with animals and people, using participatory community-based approaches. I love the buzz of effective, productive workshops. I manage for outcomes, valuing diversity, recognising and nurturing talent and ability.
