Steven's research work at the University of Bristol investigated staff development in the field of applied linguistics and in particular ESOL applying positioning theory to discourse analysis methods developed through the research process. It sought to describe and explain the role teachers play in shaping professional learning and provided the basis for changes in uses of reflection and boundaries between part-time and full-time staff at a large FE institution in the South West.
