Surendra Shukla’s Expertise My research work is mainly focused on the role of metabolic alterations in pancreatic cancer pathogenesis, therapeutic resistance, novel immunotherapy and cancer-associated cachexia. I am very keen to explore the novel immunotherapy candidates in combination with cell metabolism inhibitors. Recently, we have demonstrated that targeting glycolytic pathway/ fatty acid biosynthesis by different genetic and chemotherapeutic agents, can overcome gemcitabine resistance in pancreatic cancer. We have also demonstrated that inhibition of glycolysis improves radiotherapy response in pre-clinical models of pancreatic cancer. We utilize different in vitro as well in vivo models of pancreatic cancer to study the pancreatic cancer pathogenesis and therapy response. I have also developed and characterized the different in vitro as well as in vivo model system on pancreatic cancer-associated cachexia and actively involved in exploring the molecular mechanism of cancer-associated cachexia and development of novel therapeutic strategies to combat cancer-induced wasting.
